Выпускницы Школы Родченко Лилия Ли-Ми-Ян и Катерина Садовски запустили акцию на Кикстартере в поддержку своего проекта по переработке пластикового мусора.
Проект Where is my plastic bag? включает в себя сбор пластикового мусора в арт-институциях Москвы, его переработку и создание скульптур из переработанного материала.
Художницы так обозначили свою позицию:
«Сейчас мы работаем с темой пластикового мусора и его переработки. Сегодня это экологическая проблема номер один во всем мире. Когда человечество уже перевалило за грань «общества потребления» и превратилось в создателей огромных гор отходов. Мы производим так много мусора, что все заводы в мире не способны его переработать. Наш проект – это осмысление личной ответственности в сложившейся ситуации. Никто в одиночку не в силе изменить мир, но всегда есть Я и Я говорю за себя.»
Художницы обратились в музеи и некоторые университеты, чтобы установить там контейнеры по сбору пластиковых отходов. На их предложение откликнулись ГММИ им. Пушкина, Музей Москвы, Московский Музей Современного Искусства, бизнес школа Сколково, Московский Архитектурный Институт. Каждый посетитель мог оставить в этих контейнерах свою бутылку от воды и стать соавтором проекта Ли-Ми-Ян и Садовски. Это большая коллективная работа, в которой может участвовать каждый человек без каких-либо ограничений. Сейчас сбор мусора закончен. Лилия и Катерина готовят весь собранный материал к переработке. Чтобы закончить две следующие части проекта, им нужен большой бюджет, который девушки решили попросить у всего мира через платформу Kickstarter:
В октябре этого года художницы отвезут весь собранный пластик на переработку, а после – изготовят скульптуры из переработанного материала. У них уже есть некоторые 3d модели будущих скульптур. Сейчас ведутся переговоры с несколькими заводами, изучаются технологии и возможности создания форм для скульптур.
Еще одна главная часть проекта – это научный взгляд на проблему с пластиком. Художницы планируют коллаборацию с командой с ученых. Они хотят рассмотреть теории будущего планеты в контексте этой проблемы и сделать несколько видео. Художниц интересуют исследования этой темы с точки зрения науки. На сегодня уже есть несколько теорий дальнейшего существования планеты в ситуации с пластиковым загрязнением. Либо живые организмы начнут адаптироваться к пластику, и если начать фантазировать на эту тему дальше – в ближайшем будущем мы можем превратиться в киборгов, внутри и снаружи которых будут вживлены полимерные материалы. Либо природа сама начнет уничтожать мусор, в виде выработки специальных бактерий, разъедающих его.
Почему это важно?
«Потому что природа – это наш дом, а искусство – сильный инструмент, намного сильнее политики. К черту искусство, которое только способно ублажать эстетические потребности людей, а больше ни на что не годится! Да, мы не можем изменить мир. Но мы должны попробовать сделать хоть что-то, мы должны быть одержимы своей идеей и работой, мы должны показать пример, начав с себя. Только наши действия ведут ко многим результатам, в которых мы привыкли обвинять других людей.
We are artists Lilia Li-Mi-Yan and Katherina Sadovsky.
We work with different media, and in our projects we explore the internal human and social topics that are generally considered in our society as problems. A year ago we got interested in the topic of trauma – both mental and physical. The experience that people carry throughout their life. We looked at the phenomenon of trauma from the point of view of nature, as any natural deformation is associated by us with our body.
Now we are working with the topic of plastic waste and its recycling. Today this is the number one ecological problem in the whole world. When humanity has already transcended beyond “consumer society” stage and has become the creator of huge mountains of waste. We produce so much waste that all the plants in the world cannot recycle it. Our project is the comprehension of personal responsibility in the current situation. No one alone can change the world, but there is always ME and I speak for myself. And I act according to my principles.
Our project consists of three parts. The first is the collecting of plastic waste in the area, that for us, artists, is the closest - art and education. We installed recycling containers entitled “Plastic for art" in museums and other art institutions in Moscow. Each visitor can leave an empty plastic bottle in them and become our co-author in the project. That is a great team work and everyone can participate without any restrictions.
The second part of the project is the recycling of all collected waste and the creation of sculptures from this material.
The third part of the project we want to do in collaboration with scientists working in Chemistry and Biology fields. We are interested in researching this topic from the point of view of science. For today, there are several theories of our planet's future existence with the plastic pollution. Either living organisms will begin to adapt to plastic and if we start developing this idea further – in the nearest future we can turn into cyborgs, with polymeric materials implanted inside and outside our body. Or the nature itself will begin to destroy the waste by producing special bacteria that decompose it.
We got interested in this topic last summer, when we were at the art residence in Siberia, on Lake Baikal. On the island where we lived, there are no garbage containers at all. People have to take their waste on cars to the city. It is clear that not everyone is doing that, turning a beautiful wildlife into an ugly dump. That’s when the idea of trauma was born.
We made two large exhibition projects – in the woods and on the abandoned marble quarry, using ready-made natural materials and forms as sculptures and installations. After all, the most majestic things have been already created by nature. We worked with large blocks of marble which sections we decorated as open wounds with still warm breathing flesh.
What we managed to do in this project:
1. Agreed with museums and art institutions on the collection of plastic waste
2. Collected a huge amount of plastic waste
3. Developed 3d models of future sculptures
4. We addressed to the people in their social networks, and urged them not to throw plastic into the general trash but bring it into our studio instead. We believe that plastic waste can become a good resource if we start to process it properly and produce smth new out of it. It's a second life of the material. Now many big (and not so big) companies are trying to work on this problem and produce goods from recycled material. This is still not enough, but we hope that in the future everything will be much better.
5. We tried to work with plastic in our studio, heating it up to 600 degrees Celsius. Mostly, that was a pet waste. This is a very difficult material that simply shrinks under the influence of hot air. We realized that we do not want to make sculptures out of garbage, as our creative possibilities will be very limited. It is better to process it. We decided to create large sculptures made of fiberglass, with details made of recycled waste inside. They should look cool – like cancerous tumors inside ideal forms.
We ask you to support our project. To complete it, we need money for recycling of collected plastic, creating sculptures at the plant and scientific research. We want this to be a big art project, where people from all over the world can participate. This is our common actionism, we are all responsible for the world we live in and what is happening to it.
